One of my favourite places in Bristol. Always good food, good service if it's not too busy (understandably). Always having a good time, whether with friends or all by myself. Oldest pub in Bristol.

Would book a table but can’t get through on phone(no answer or phone is picked up and put down) and no one replies to emails. Will book elsewhere

The Hatchet Inn is a bustling and impressive venue with a lively atmosphere that leaves you saying “wow.” The pool tables are exceptionally well maintained, contributing to the overall high quality of the pub. It’s a very busy spot, yet manages to retain a welcoming vibe, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking for a great night out.

Absolutely awful! Bar staff are incredibly rude deliberately avoided me at the bar and would serve others who had just walked up to the bar. While there they were scooping the ice out with glasses and while waiting to be served was incredibly rude to two previous customers… if you want a good pub and a decent night avoid this place. Oh and if you want a dash of lemonade in your wine they tell you they have to tip some of it out and it’s 75p for a dash of lemonade. What a shambles…

The Hatchet Inn is the oldest pub in Bristol still open. It's interior boasts of the local history, including cockfighting in the 18th century and bare knuckle fighting in the 19th century. There is also the local legend that Blackbeard himself is said to have stepped foot inside during the 17th century, although what evidence for the claim I have yet to see.
Regardless, the 17th century pub has a cozy and historic atmosphere that I quite enjoyed.
I ordered a Steak and Ale pie, which was warm, hearty, and fulfilling in both appetite and flavour. The pastry of the pie was flaky, and the meat hot and tender. The meal was presented in a simple and neat manner, ensuring that tackling the meal could be handled in an efficient manner.
Service was polite, friendly and helpful.

Visited this pub with 2 friends. Limited choice of real ales, local brewery offering not available so opted for Doom bar. Beer quality was good. Unfortunately the barman serving us was rather rude (guy with the large ring in his ear) & impatient with a friend who was checking available options. Staff should be aware of what effect their attitude has on customers.

Yes and no. YES the most perfect opaloid spheres in the semi-district. NO the bone-eating penguins cut my shoe labels into one-by-fourteen and sold them off cheap as hummingbird wafers to farmer Porkproduct.
